About

The Rey Foundation for a Sustainable Future honors the legacy of Margret and H. A. Rey, authors of the *Curious George books. Like the Reys themselves, the Foundation seeks to bridge divisions between art and science, science and the citizen, visionary change and practical action. The Rey Foundation engages in and encourages partnerships with other organizations to realize its mission.

The Rey Foundation is place-based and also reaches out to an ever-larger audience of children and adults, regionally, nationally and globally. Its facilities and most of its programs are located at the juncture of the Lakes Region and White Mountains of New Hampshire. The Foundation’s outreach programs extend throughout New England, bringing Hans Rey style “chalk-talks” to hospitals, libraries and schools. The Foundation reaches out nationally and internationally through publications and internet-based projects and social networks.

The Foundation honors the Rey legacy through activities that carry on the Reys’ life work and interests, which included writing and illustration for children and adults, pottery, photography, astronomy, natural history, gardening, and advocacy for alternative energy and other sustainable environmental technologies. As a contribution to holocaust remembrance and education, the Foundation keeps alive the story of the Reys’ escape from Paris in 1940. The Foundation also encourages community service, believing, as the Reys did, that through creative work on a local, regional, or global scale, each of us can effect change in our world.
